Police in Kanyama have apprehended a 24-year-old man, Joseph Kabanshi, known by his alias “VIPER,” from Garden House Compound in Lusaka.
According to Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, Kabanshi is the alleged leader of a gang responsible for terrorizing the community.
Kabanshi, who had been on the police wanted list, was accused of multiple serious crimes, including murder, aggravated robbery and other violent offenses.
Chilabi confirmed in a statement issued Friday that Kabanshi was apprehended on October 24, 2024, around 17:00 hours after a successful operation.

“Between July 2023 and October 2024, Kabanshi, along with unidentified accomplices, allegedly led a gang that assembled in large numbers, often armed with machetes and other offensive weapons,” Chilabi stated.
The gang reportedly attacked residents, damaged property and stole valuable items such as mobile phones and cash, also looting shops.
Chilabi detailed that the gang’s activities impacted several areas in Lusaka, including Kanyama West, Mutanda Bantu, Mbasela, Kanono, Garden House, Makeni Villa, Yellow Shop, and Shalom.
Currently in police custody, Kabanshi is awaiting formal charges and would soon appear in court.
“We extend our gratitude to the community for their support and cooperation, which were crucial in the successful apprehension of criminals in the area,” Chilabi added.
