Lusaka musician, Chikonde, arrested for alleged drug trafficking

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested Lusaka-based musician, Jackson Chikonde, 31, for drug trafficking.

Chikonde, a resident of Rhodes Park, was apprehended for trafficking in 43 sachets of cannabis weighing 84.65 grammes and 13 bottles of codeine weighing 2.6 grammes.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, DEC Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba confirmed the arrest, stating that the drugs had been seized and the suspect was in detention.

“The suspect identified as Jackson Chikonde, male aged 31 of Lusaka’s Rhodes Park area, has been charged with the offence of trafficking in 43 sachets of cannabis weighing 84.65 grammes and 13 bottles of codeine weighing 2.6 grammes,” Tamba said.

He further revealed that Chikonde had been publicizing music videos containing content that dared law enforcement agencies and incited the public to engage in activities contrary to national laws.

Tamba assured the public that the Commission remained committed to fighting drug-related crimes and urged citizens to continue supporting DEC’s efforts.

“We thank members of the public for their vigilance and continued support during investigations. We further call upon all citizens to continue partnering with the Commission by reporting suspicious activities so that together, we can prevent, detect, and combat crimes,” he stated.

Chikonde remains in lawful custody pending judicial proceedings.
