Another case of incest has unfolded in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court, where Francis Kalembula, a 45-year-old businessman from Kalikiliki Compound, has been convicted of defiling his nine-year-old daughter.
The victim’s mother, who had been hospitalised with cholera, left her children in Kalembula’s care for five days.
Upon her return, she noticed unusual behavior from her daughter, who eventually revealed that she had been defiled by her father, not once, but twice.
Kalembula had threatened to beat and kill his daughter if she exposed the abuse.

However, medical records confirmed the sexual assault, contradicting Kalembula’s claims that the child was defiled by unknown people in a maize field.
In a desperate attempt to reject blame, Kalembula claimed he slept on a chair while his daughter slept on the bed.
But evidence presented by the State revealed that he had ample opportunity to commit the crime, as they shared the same bed.
Magistrate Mutinta Mwenya found Kalembula guilty of defilement and referred him to the High Court for sentencing.
Kalembula faces a minimum sentence of 15 years with hard labour.
