The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has granted a defense application to summon two witnesses from the National Assembly and Payroll Management and Establishment Control (PERMIC) in the ongoing trial of former Home Affairs Minister, Stephen Kampyongo, and his wife, Wanziya Chirwa.
Led by Norman Siwila, the defense team requested the court to summon the Directors of Finance from both institutions to testify.
Principal Magistrate Silvia Munyinya approved the request, scheduling the trial to continue on July 18 and 23, 2024.
The state, represented by Virginia Tembo, expressed frustration over the slow pace of the defense, urging for substantial progress in the upcoming sessions.
The court instructed the defense to obtain and serve the summons to the witnesses, highlighting that the initial application lacked necessary details.
Kampyongo and his wife face 12 counts of possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.
