Lusaka magistrate, Sylvia Munyinya, has expressed concern over failure by the police to execute a bench warrant issued against former President Edgar Lungu’s political advisor, Kaizer Zulu.
As at Wednesday, Zulu and his surety, Lumezi Member of Parliament, Munir Zulu were still at large.
Zulu is charged with two counts of failure to surrender his Diplomatic Passport and to appear before the nearest immigration officer .
He has, however, been avoiding court sessions, forcing Magistrate Munyinya to issue bench warrants.
Zulu had been found with a case to answer and he is expected to open his defence.
When the matter came up for return of bench warrant on Wednesday, both Zulu and his surety, Munir, were not present in court.
Magistrate Munyinya was concerned that the police had failed to apprehend Zulu when the bench warrant had been extended twice.
His other surety, Chilubi member of Parliament, Mulenga Fube, informed the court that he had assigned some people to trail Zulu and Munir, but it had proved futile.
The arresting officer, Frank Malimakau, also told the court the efforts to have the duo arrest had failed but assured the Magistrate they would be brought to court at the next sitting.
Magistrate Munyinya extended the bench warrant and ordered Fube and the arresting officer to bring to book Zulu and Munir.
She adjourned the matter to July 18,2023, for return of bench warrant.
