The Lusaka High Court has granted Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president, Andrew Kamanga, an interim injunction restraining USA-based Zambian journalist, Augustine Mukoka, from making further statements against him.
Judge Gertrude Chawatama ordered Mukoka to immediately cease publishing or discussing allegations related to Kamanga, pending the court’s final ruling on a defamation lawsuit filed by the FAZ president.
Kamanga turned to the courts after Mukoka accused him of having a long-running affair with a woman identified as Ms. Kaleya, beginning when she was 15 years old, and fathering three children with her.
Denying the allegations, Kamanga described them as deliberate falsehoods intended to tarnish his reputation ahead of the FAZ elections.
He insisted he had never met Kaleya.
“This is a smear campaign designed to destroy my credibility both personally and professionally,” Kamanga stated.
The lawsuit accuses Mukoka of orchestrating a targeted defamation campaign that has subjected Kamanga to public ridicule and damaged his standing as FAZ president.
Kamanga is seeking damages for libel, slander, and malicious falsehoods, along with a formal public apology and a retraction with equal prominence as the original allegations.
