Two suspects are under investigation by police for providing false information to public officers, including a fabricated abduction report.

Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, stated that one of the suspects, Bessy Apex, 25, of Makeni area, contacted her boyfriend, Luwi Kasoka, 26, of Kuku Compound, falsely claiming she had been abducted by unknown individuals.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday, Hamoonga explained that in response to the false claim, Kasoka went to the alleged crime scene, recorded video footage, and shared it on social media.

“He also reported to the police that there was a dead body in the bathroom of the room where Bessy was,” Hamoonga added.

Hamoonga clarified that earlier, Apex had gone to drink at Keg and Hippo at Cosmopolitan Mall.

“She stayed at the venue until it closed and left around 22:00 hours with Ignatius Mwembani, 29, a DJ at the establishment, who resides in Kuku Compound,” Hamoonga stated.

The two then proceeded to Manda Hill Mall, where they continued drinking at Sogo Nightclub.

“At midnight, they left Sogo Nightclub and went to Blue Water Motel in Koumboka, where they booked a room,” he narrated.

Shortly after, Ignatius left the room, but before departing the premises, Bessy began breaking windows and injured her right hand.

“In response, Ignatius returned to the room, calmed her down, and asked the receptionist to lock the room where Bessy was staying as she was intoxicated. Ignatius then left the premises,” Hamoonga explained.

Later, Apex contacted her boyfriend, falsely claiming she had been abducted.

“Following this, her boyfriend arrived at the motel, took videos of the scene, and posted them on social media. He also reported to the police that there was a dead body in the bathroom of the room Bessy was in,” Hamoonga noted.

Officers from Chawama Police conducted a thorough search and confirmed there was no dead body in the room, nor was there any evidence of an abduction.

“The report filed by Bessy Apex and Luwi Kasoka was false. As a result, the duo have been taken to Lusaka Division for further investigations,” Hamoonga stated.
