The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has urged the public to purchase alcohol only from licensed establishments.
Council Senior Health Inspector, Haggai Siyuna, made the appeal after a recent inspection revealed non-compliance with licensing regulations among some bars and opaque beer vendors in Ng’ombe compound.
Siyuna highlighted issues such as poor waste management, inadequate and dirty toilets and unauthorized operators.
“Most premises do not have licenses to trade in alcohol,” he noted.
He also addressed noise complaints related to bars operating in residential areas, emphasizing that the council’s objective is to safeguard public health.
While no operators were shut down during the inspection, records were made of those in violation. The council plans to recommend prosecution and the confiscation and disposal of unauthorized alcohol.
Council Senior Public Health Inspector Nthandose Mtonga advised legal beer traders to ensure they maintain proper documentation and adhere to licensing regulations.
