The Edgar Lungu-led Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary-General, Raphael Nakacinda, has accused the Police of ochestrating a plan to raid the former president’s residence in search of seditious materials and articles.
Nakacinda said this was a plan to distract Zambians from talking about the corruption cases which are happening in government.
During a media briefing in Lusaka on Tuesday, Nakacinda cited the case of Foriegn Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Stanley Kakubo, among others as some of the issues government does not want Zambians to discuss.
He said the government through the Police had found Lungu as an easy tool to use to divert the attention of Zambians from discussing real issues such as the state of the economy.
“During this season it has been very terrible that the economy of Zambia has truly affected Zambians.they have failed to celebrate Christmas fully. They are having high blood pressure. They don’t know how they are going to cross into the new year,” Nakacinda noted.
He said Police were also harassing Members of Parliament, citing Chitambo Member of Parliament, Remember Chanda Mutale, by stopping him from having meetings in his Constituency.
Nakacinda claimed that Mutale had been in the Constituency since Parliament went on recess to check on developmental projects, but that the police were making it hard for him to carry out his parliamentary duties.
“The police have been on his neck through and through against the law. This is against multiple ruling from the courts including the ruling from the Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti that MPs do not need a permit from the police to undertake a tour of their Constituency,” he added.
Nakacinda claimed that the Police were doing this to distract the PF Members of Parliament in executing their mandate in their Constituencies.
He called on the Police to leave the Chitambo MP and others who were being harassed alone so that they can interact with their electorates.
Meanwhile, Nakacinda said the party was pursuing legal means in the matter in which party candidates were denied chance to file in their nominations for the fourth coming Ward by-elections.
