Lubinda-led Patriotic Front alleges Zambia heading towards one-party state under Hichilema

The Given Lubinda-led Patriotic Front (PF) party has cried foul over the decision by the High Court to discharge an order restraining Matero Member of Parliament, Miles Sampa, from parading as party President.

Sampa who was recently elected as PF president during a general conference remained PF president after the court discharged the ex-parte order of Interim injunction restraining him from parading himself in that position.

During an emergency press briefing in Lusaka on Friday evening, Lubinda described President Hakainde Hichilema as a dictator in the making who was doing everything possible to kill democracy.

He said Hichilema was working around the clock to make Zambia a one party state as it can been seen from the rulings which were given for Kabushi and Kwacha Constituencies.

“I have said many times that all the activities of Hichilema point to the fact that he is working towards the creation of a one party state. Just the mention of Patriotic Front makes Hichilema to have goose pimples,” Lubinda.

He said the PF was the only party in Zambia which was compelled to provide Curriculum Vitaes for office bearers which resulted in the party to provide 15 names and not 10.

Lubinda said Hichilema was running away from his promise to govern the country by the rule of law.

“It is very clear to us that they have been looking for this opportunity and they found it, when they found a weak soul in one Miles Bwalya Sampa. Yes we applied and we’re granted an injunction and the return date of that injunction was set for November 21, 2023,” he said.

Lubinda said it was surprising that the court had decided to withdraw the injunction and the party lawyers were preparing to go and present the case on November 21, 2023.

He also expressed surprise that the Registrar of Societies had also accepted the outcome of Sampa’s conference by accepting the list which was submitted as office bearers of the PF.

“Can the Registrar explain to us since she does not live in space but on earth on how she had accepted an illegality when she is aware of the requirements under the PF Constitution which is in her hands,” Lubinda said.

He said party lawyer had been instructed to call out the Registrar of Societies to come out and explain what she had done because Sampa was an illegality.

Lubinda maintained that the conference held at Mulungushi was a state-sponsored activity with the full support of Hichilema.
