Local authorities in Northern province urged to expedite feeder road construction as soon as rains subside

Bernard Mpundu, the Permanent Secretary of Northern Province, has called on local authorities to prioritise the construction of feeder roads immediately after the rainy season ends.

This directive is intended to improve connectivity and accessibility across the province.

Mpundu urged the local authorities in all 12 districts to act swiftly once the rains subside.

“Our communities depend on these roads for their daily activities, including accessing markets, schools, and healthcare services. It is imperative that we address this issue with the urgency it deserves,” he said in a statement issued on Sunday.

He also highlighted the significant investments made by the government through the constituency development fund (CDF), which have supported various developmental projects in the province.

According to Mpundu, the CDF has enabled the procurement of earthmoving machines for all local authorities, a key factor in facilitating these road construction projects.

“These machines are not just tools; they are the driving force behind the transformation we envision for our province. The government has also allocated fuel as part of the CDF to ensure these machines operate effectively,” he emphasised.

The initiative is part of a broader government effort to enhance infrastructure in Northern Province, ultimately fostering economic growth and improving residents’ quality of life.
