League leaders Liverpool dropped crucial points at Anfield after a pulsating 2-2 draw against arch-rivals Manchester United.

Following a goalless first half, the game exploded into life in the second period.

In a match reported by Al Jazeera, United broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute through Lisandro Martinez, but Liverpool responded swiftly, with Cody Gakpo equalizing just seven minutes later.

The Reds took the lead shortly after when Mohamed Salah converted a penalty following a clumsy foul by Matthijs de Ligt.

However, United refused to back down and leveled the score in the 80th minute with a composed finish from Amad Diallo.

The visitors came close to snatching a dramatic late winner when Harry Maguire failed to capitalize on two golden opportunities.

First, the United captain missed a back-post effort after Bruno Fernandes whipped in a dangerous free kick.

Moments later, he blasted a close-range attempt over the bar after Joshua Zirkzee’s clever pass. Despite the late flurry, neither side could find the decisive goal.

The draw sees Liverpool maintain their position at the top of the table but with their lead slightly diminished.
