Lesbianism and Gayism in the Zambian Church, by Rev. Walter Mwambazi

0

A great colleague and fellow worker in the vineyard friend of mine Theologian JPC Ntuntu aka Jacob PC Ntuntu one year ago ran a deeply eye opening series entitled…

“LESBIANISM and GAYISM in the ZAMBIAN CHURCH – Triggering a Honest Conversation”

And exact two years ago today he posted part 2 of the said series on his wall (which I have reposted in the comments section).

It is a brutally frank discussion that we as clergy must begin to speak openly about. I am aware personally of persons struggling with homosexuality for years and have even counselled some.

What has been the greatest shock is that it is not only a thriving (but hidden community in Zambia supported by some of the most wealthy Zambians today – both indigenous (blacks and coloreds) and foreign (Asians and Causasians) – but has been funded greatly by a number of NGOs to ensure the rights of these individuals is protected.

We do victimize, stigmatize and abuse them so much socially its shameful actually.

But my writing this preamble is because the greatest thing I feared most has happened – we have not only homos in the church, but even some clergy are closet homos!

But that isn’t even the worst news… There is going to be massive pressure from donor countries and NGOs to ensure that we begin recognizing and according this group their “human rights” to be what they want – free to be what they are.

What even bleeds my heart further is that the church has by fighting this movement perhaps exposed its greatest state of religious bigotry – and I am not excluding myself here – because such a queer and detestable lifestyle is easy to label as a great sin – yet we harbor in our own midst adulterers, perverts, pedophiles, thieves, drunkards, those who pervert justice, exploiters of the poor, extortionists, liars and tribalists.

But since these can and do hold many positions of significance in the church and even dress, look and sound decent – we call them “good citizens”.

But we must really ask ourselves a deeper question – who is the worse sinner between the these I mentioned and the homosexual?

The Bible declares that the heart of man is exceedingly evil and desperately wicked. I can assure you that if any of us found ourselves in different circumstances, perhaps the worst of ourselves would be manifest!

What am I saying?

We must face this hard conversation and ask ourselves this. What would Jesus do?

Jesus embraced and welcomed the sinner, but He demonstrated love and allowed the Holy Spirit through His true Word to cut to the heart and deliver people like me from sin!

Then He gave us the Holy Spirit so that we could be able to live a life that is victorious over sin. In short, we TURNED away from sin because we encountered Jesus Christ and His Love!

Labeling people as vile sinners doesn’t really help because we all are – the only difference is that I am in Christ and walk in Christ by the power of His Grace though the Holy Spirit. I have brought my sin under the Power of the Cross and Christ – perhaps our LGBTQI colleagues haven’t.

But how shall they if we keep labeling and banishing them as vile sinners (which we were too – and many still are but just hide well?)

We must now come to the final truth – we must embrace them – not their sinful lifestyle and allow them to come as they are to Christ.

None here were told to first “go quit your drinking and womanizing” and then come back to church (Jesus) or else none of us would even be speaking today.

God reached out to us in our wickedness and “touched” us by His power and here I am today – saved and sanctified daily!

Let us do the same for the LGBTQ+ community in our country because if we chose to fight them, we repel them and cause a further rift between them and God.

Lastly, on those within that community who actually practice Christianity. I am sorry to say, Scripture condemns Homosexuality and no amount of Eisegesis changes the truth – that same sex unions are an abomination and a sin to God.

Any church that openly supports LGBTQ+ is an Apostate church and has nothing to do with what Scripture teaches. So, please do not ever be part of such shepherds because they are leading you along with themselves on an express highway to hell.

The best is to simply come to Christ as you are and let Him change your life once and for all. Embracing a lie does not change what you feel deep down your soul – the shame and guilt of sin.

Jesus loves you and there are many who are ready to work with you and allow His Holy Spirit to see your life delivered from this state.

God bless you!
