Lawmaker Banda reasserts claims against President Hichilema’s aides in abduction case

Emmanuel Jay Banda, the Member of Parliament for Petauke Central, has firmly asserted that his abduction was orchestrated by Levy Ngoma and Clayson Hamasaka, both presidential aides, along with UPND member Trevor Mwiinde.

This statement was made in response to defenses mounted by Ngoma, political advisor to President Hakainde Hichilema, State House Media Director Hamasaka, UPND Deputy Youth Chairperson Mwiinde, and the Attorney-General.

In their rebuttals, Ngoma, Hamasaka and Mwiinde denied any involvement in the alleged abduction, dismissing Banda’s accusations as baseless and a tactic to boost his political profile.

Despite these denials, Banda’s legal team, Makebi Zulu Advocates, argued in their reply that the brutal treatment he endured was a violation of his constitutional rights under Articles 11(a), 13 and 15 of the Zambian Constitution.

Banda’s claims included specific allegations that Mwiinde played a direct role in the violence against him.

He also identified Hamasaka, citing unique physical characteristics, though Hamasaka has denied any involvement.

According to Banda, his transfer to Maina Soko Military Hospital was a deliberate move to limit his ability to communicate freely and to obstruct timely legal representation.

The MP’s legal team argued that the delays in providing him access to a lawyer were intentional and unjustified.

Banda maintained that every aspect of his claims was supported by legal principles and factual evidence.
