The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has dragged Chaminuka Lodge to court for failing to refund K117,045, being money paid for accommodation and hosting of a conference.

LAZ is also demanding interest on the said sum from date of payment.

According to documents filed in the Lusaka High Court on Tuesday, LAZ claimed to have made a payment of K117,045, to the defendant through bank transfer for lodging of the delegates and hosting of the said workshop on July 29, 2022.

It stated that the delegates were scheduled to check in on August 4, 2022 but were notified by the lodge workers that they had been booked in the villa and not the known rooms of the Lodge.

“That the lodge staff apologised for the inconvenience and undertook to refund LAZ as the delegates were not satisfied with the accommodation leading to the cancellation of the booking,” it stated.

The litigant stated that it wrote a demand letter to the defendant on August 9, 2022 demanding for a refund, of which Chaminuka lodge replied on August 15, 2022, agreeing to refund the Association.

LAZ stated that through another letter dated August 25, 2022, did provide account to which the money ought to have been remitted in.

The plaintiff however submitted to Court, that the lodge had failed to honour its obligations despite several reminders, consequently, wants the High Court to order the defendant to settle the refund.
