Sedrick Kasanda has sued the State, seeking the removal of seizure notices placed on his personal and company bank accounts by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).

DEC froze the accounts of Quashaun International Limited and Kasanda’s personal account in August 2023, citing unspecified reasons.

In a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court, Kasanda argued that DEC’s actions had caused him significant financial hardship and business losses.

He stated that the seizure of his company’s account had prevented access to operational funds, resulting in the closure of his offices due to unpaid rent.

Kasanda also alleged that the freeze on his personal account has impacted his ability to meet financial obligations, including supporting his children’s education, health, and social needs.

He is seeking the removal of the seizure notices, damages for loss of business, legal costs, and interest for the indefinite withholding of his funds for one year.

Kasanda is currently on trial along with four other Zambians on charges of espionage related to the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport gold scandal last year.
