Chishimba Kambwili and two others injured in a deadly road accident in Kasama have been evacuated to Lusaka for advanced medical treatment.

The crash, which claimed the lives of Kambwili’s two brothers, prompted the government to facilitate the evacuation using Flying Doctor Service facilities.

The three survivors arrived at Lusaka’s City Airport, with their arrival broadcast live on ZNBC TV and social media platforms.

Information and Media Permanent Secretary, Thabo Kawana, several Patriotic Front MPs, and a representative from the Law Association of Zambia were present at the airport.

Kambwili has been admitted to Maina Soko Military Hospital, while lawyer Kennedy Mambwe and driver Kennedy Mwila are receiving treatment at the University Teaching Hospital.

Kawana urged the public to focus on the victims’ recovery, stating: “There is no need to discuss unrelated matters at this time. The government is handling everything necessary for their treatment.”

The bodies of Kambwili’s two brothers have been transported to Luanshya for the funeral service.

Earlier, PF senior member Brian Mundubile expressed concerns about the practice of relocating accused persons to distant courts, calling for change to prevent long journeys that can lead to tragedies like this one.

LAZ Vice President,Matilda Kaoma, also highlighted that lawyers were made to move long distances to represent clients due to shortage of lawyers in the country.

“In this country, we only have 4,000 lawyers against 20 million Zambians which means lawyers have long distances like in this case ,” Kaoma said.

The accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon near Lubushi, before reaching Kasama, according to police reports.
