Kabwe police burst illegal juice processing plant

On Saturday afternoon, Zambia Police in Kabwe, in collaboration with the Kabwe Municipal Council, uncovered an illegal juice processing plant operating from a residential property in Kabwe’s Mine Area.

The discovery followed a tip-off from a member of the public regarding the distribution of juice processed and packaged at House Number M 254.

A team of police officers, led by Central Province Commanding Officer Charity Munganga, and council officers from the Public Health Department under Director Christopher Mtonga, inspected the site.

A joint statement issued on Saturday revealed that the operation was conducted under unsanitary conditions, with deceptive packaging, constituting a criminal offense.

“It was confirmed that the juice, branded as Natural Fruit Juice, was being processed and packaged in violation of the Food Safety Act of 2019 and the Public Health Act, Chapter 295 of Zambian laws.

“Authorities have seized the products, which will serve as evidence in the prosecution process. The public and business community are urged to remain vigilant and avoid selling or consuming such counterfeit products, which pose significant health risks,” the statement read in part.
