Police in Chingola are struggling to contain a violent protest in Chiwempala township, where illegal miners are demanding access to mining sites where over 30 miners died in 2023.

Eyewitnesses report a tense situation as the protesters insist that the government return the pits they scavenge for copper, arguing that the rainy season has ended.
