The Zambia Police Service in Kalumbila District has arrested a woman accused of assaulting another woman she suspected of having an affair with her husband.
Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, identified the suspect as Annie Phiri, a resident of Kisasa area.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday, Hamoonga reported that on August 2, 2024, the victim, Kavui Mwanaute, 21, also of Kisasa, filed a report of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (OABH).

“The victim sustained bruises on her back, buttocks, and abdomen, and experienced general body pains as a result of slaps and kicks,” Hamoonga stated.
According to the investigation, Phiri suspected that her husband was involved in an extramarital affair with Mwanaute.
Acting on these suspicions, Phiri confronted Mwanaute at a local market, forcibly took her to her residence, and assaulted her.
The victim was eventually rescued by neighbors who witnessed the incident.
“It has come to our attention that individuals present during the assault recorded the incident on their mobile phones,” Hamoonga added.
Following the arrest, videos of the assault surfaced and began circulating on social media platforms.
“The Zambia Police Service is taking this matter seriously and has launched an investigation to trace the source of these viral videos. We urge the public to refrain from sharing such content, as it can contribute to further victimization and has legal implications,” Hamoonga warned.
