Jailed ex-Lusaka minister, Lusambo, loses properties as court orders forfeiture

Former Lusaka Province Minister, Bowman Lusambo, has suffered another setback as the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court ordered the forfeiture of his Silverest properties and a Black Range Rover to the State.

Resident Magistrate, Faides Hamaundu, ruled that the properties and vehicle were “tainted” and acquired through illicit means, invoking the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act.

The State argued that Lusambo should not benefit from assets obtained through illegal means, while his legal team opposed the forfeiture, claiming the court lacked jurisdiction.

However, Magistrate Hamaundu dismissed the objection, referencing the precedent set in the case of Leah Tekumwenzo Mpondela vs The People, which affirms the Magistrates’ Court’s jurisdiction in forfeiture applications.

The forfeited assets include the Black Range Rover and several properties in the Silverest area:

1. Property HT: T5-B No. 282

2. Property HT: T3-C No. 248

3. Property HT: T3-C No. 249

4. Property HT: T4-A No. 282

Lusambo is currently serving a four-year prison sentence for unrelated charges.
