The Israeli government has announced plans to establish an embassy in Zambia, a move expected to deepen diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two nations.

Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, welcomed the decision, emphasizing that it would strengthen existing bilateral ties and enhance collaboration in key sectors.

According to a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday by Eva Chanda, Principal Public Relations Officer at the Ministry, Haimbe noted that the opening of an Israeli embassy aligned with the country’s broader strategy to expand its diplomatic presence in Africa in 2025.

“Zambia and the State of Israel have enjoyed longstanding bilateral relations since 1964 when the two countries established diplomatic ties,” Haimbe said.

Haimbe highlighted that the embassy’s establishment would facilitate greater engagement between Zambia and Israel, particularly in areas such as agriculture, trade, and innovation.

“This decision is expected to further enhance bilateral cooperation between Zambia and the State of Israel in areas of mutual interest,” he stated.

The announcement followed discussions between Haimbe and Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Sa’ar, held on Friday at Charter House in Lusaka.
