United Party for National Development (UPND) Lusaka Province Chairperson, Obvious Mwaliteta, has urged President Hakainde Hichilema to take stock of discontent in the rulling party.
In a statement on Saturday, Mwaliteta said:
“We in Lusaka humbly urge President Hichilema to take note of the discontent among our loyal party members.”
This, according to him, was because some of the individuals entrusted with key roles had allegedly prioritized personal gain over service to the people.
Mwaliteta alleged that greed in the hierarchy brought unnecessary challenges to grassroots, who he said deserved better.

“To those who, after enjoying positions of privilege, now want to return to the grassroots with empty rhetoric and shallow promises mwaloba yauma(you are stranded). As long as I serve as Lusaka Provincial Chairman, I will not entertain betrayal or selfishness,” he said.
“We will stand firm against any attempts to undermine the trust and unity of our members.”
He warned that councilors or other leaders conspiring to reintroduce individuals who failed the people during their tenure should think twice.
Mwaliteta insisted that such actions would not be tolerated under his leadership.
“To those who question my leadership and claim that Lusaka Province is not performing, I remind them of our track record,” Mwaliteta said.
He went on to say that
as the backbone of nation’s capital and a symbol of resilience, Lusaka Province remained strong and unwavering in its commitment to progress, even without the economic advantages enjoyed by other regions such as the Copperbelt’s Black Mountain.
“Our strength lies in the dedication and determination of our grassroots members and the leadership guiding them.”
