Inspector General of Police, Graphel Musamba, has emphasised Zambia’s unwavering commitment to supporting and implementing measures to prevent conflict worldwide, in accordance with the United Nations mandate.

In a statement delivered at the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) held at the UN Headquarters in New York, Musamba stressed the inseparable link between sustainable development and peace.

“There can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable development,” he stated.

Musamba highlighted the essential role of the police in creating a favorable environment for the establishment of frameworks and pillars of the rule of law, ensuring the safety of people and property.

He underscored the heightened importance of conflict prevention today, given the resurgence of violent conflicts and the increase in armed confrontations globally.

Namatama Njekwa, the First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Permanent Mission of Zambia to the United Nations, confirmed this in a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday.

Njekwa noted that the Summit, held under the theme “The Role of UN Police in Preventing Conflict and Violence and Sustaining Peace,” serves as the largest global platform for senior police leaders.
