Initiative to bridge gap between youths, access to health launched

An initiative to bridge the gap between young people and access to health services has been launched by the Sexual Reproductive Health Rights Africa Trust (SAT Africa Trust) in collaboration with government.

The SAT Africa Trust YOUTHWYZE APP Initiative will not only serve as a platform for connecting young people with health centers, but will provide opportunities for users to provide feedback on their experiences.

The initiative will also give the chance to the users to earn various rewards, SAT Africa Trust Country Director, Lengenji Nanyangwe.

Nanyangwe said this during the launch of the YOUTHWYZE APP Initiative in Lusaka on Sunday.

She emphasized that young people were now the largest online community, and the YOUTHWYZE APP Initiative aims to bring the discourse on health directly to them, enabling them to access the necessary services conveniently.

“I wish to appeal to the government, specifically the Ministry of Youths, Sport, and Arts, to endorse and support the initiative,” Nanyangwe said.

During the launch event, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youths, Sport, and Arts, Fumba Chama, recognized the importance of the YOUTHWYZE APP as it aligns with the 8th National Development Plan.

Chama acknowledged that Zambia cannot afford to lag behind in empowering young individuals with the tools and information necessary to adapt to an ever-changing society and make informed choices.

“Young people in the present generation face numerous challenges, including the increasing prevalence of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, and alcohol abuse,” he said.

Chama expressed government’s concern regarding the rise in mental health issues resulting from alcohol and substance abuse among young people.
Addressing these issues requires collective efforts from stakeholders.

“Young people understand the problems they face more intimately, and thus should be empowered to lead the charge in finding solutions and achieving positive outcomes,” he said.
