Miles Sampa, the PF Matero Member of Parliament, has called on the government to initiate programmes of healing and reconciliation to bridge the gap of past conflicts.

Sampa, who leads one of the PF factions, said there was need for incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema and former president Edgar Lungu to proactively reconcile and unite the nation.

Speaking at a media briefing at his residence in Lusaka on Wednesday, Sampa stressed that no differences were insurmountable.

“Zambia is bigger than either or both of them. They need to do it for the good of Mother Zambia. Open the gates to constructive discourse and understanding among disparate groups,” Sampa advised.

He highlighted that the ongoing differences between the two leaders negatively impacted the nation’s 20 million citizens.

Samoa said that he had already taken steps to mend his relationship with former president Lungu for the sake of unity within the PF party and among non-partisan citizens.

“This is more so for our PF party membership and other non-partisan citizens who look up to either of us for hope of a better Zambia,” Sampa stated.

He reiterated his call for President Hichilema to reach out to Lungu and resolve their differences to foster constructive discourse and understanding among different groups.

Sampa also extended an olive branch to those he had differences with, promising to mend bridges for the good of the party and the country.

“Zambia should cultivate a shared national identity that transcends tribal, regional and political divides. We need to find that one thing that should bind us together,” he said.
