The Department of Immigration has arrested about 114 foreign nationals for various offenses between July 12 and 15, 2024.

According to Immigration Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshinka, the operation was conducted in Lusaka, Chipata and Katete.

“The Lusaka, Chipata, and Katete operations brought the number of persons apprehended for various immigration offences between July 12 and July 15, 2024, countrywide to 114,” he mentioned.

Nshinka said 62 suspected illegal immigrants were arrested in three separate operations carried out in Lusaka Province and Eastern Province.

He said thirty-one of the suspects were arrested on Monday in Lusaka’s Middle West, Garden House, Mumbwa Road and Kanyama.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, Nshinka said those arrested in Lusaka included 20 Burundians, eight Congolese, two Egyptians and one Tanzanian.

“Seventeen Malawians were apprehended on July 14, 2024, in Chipata’s East Rise during an operation conducted in conjunction with other security wings, while 14 other Malawians were apprehended the same day for illegal entry by the Katete Immigration Office,” he added.

Nshinka stated that the 14 Malawians were nabbed at an Immigration checkpoint along the Great East Road, aboard different public service buses, after they failed to produce travel documents.

“The Lusaka, Chipata, and Katete operations brought the number of persons apprehended for various immigration offences between July 12 and July 15, 2024, countrywide to 114,” he mentioned.

Furthermore, Nshinka pointed out that Kapiri Mposhi Magistrate Court last week Friday convicted and sentenced a 30-year-old Nigerian Information Technology Specialist, Kazzashim Kuzasuwat, to a fine of K20,000 or, in default, 12 months simple imprisonment for unlawful stay in the country.

He was apprehended on July 9, 2024, at the Luanshimba Checkpoint along the Great North Road aboard a Lusaka-bound public service bus after he failed to produce documentation.
