The Immigration Department has apprehended 83 suspected illegal immigrants in five separate operations across Isoka, Lusaka, Katete, Chirundu, and Zombe.

Immigration Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka said this operation was conducted between December 6 and December 10, 2024.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, Nshinka explained that the operations were part of the department’s ongoing efforts to safeguard Zambia’s borders and ensure compliance with the country’s immigration laws.

In Lusaka, 45 suspects were apprehended on December 9, 2024, in high-density areas known to have large populations of suspected illegal immigrants.

“The arrested individuals included 31 Burundians, 10 Congolese, two Tanzanians, one Rwandese, and one Malawian,” Nshinka stated.

The operation covered areas such as Garden Chilulu, Ngombe, Silverest, Mutumbi, Helen Kaunda, Chilenje, and Kamanga.

All suspects were detained pending prosecution.

“The Immigration Department has been conducting similar operations to deter and eliminate illegal immigration,” Nshinka added.

Between December 6 and December 10, 2024, the department also removed 71 illegal immigrants from Zambia, assisted in securing 65 convictions, and refused 15 foreign nationals entry into the country for failing to meet entry requirements.

Nshinka urged the public to continue supporting the department by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest immigration or police office.
