Central Province Permanent Secretary, Milner Mwanakampwe, has warned that individuals engaging in indiscriminate forest burning will face arrest, citing its detrimental impact on the country.
Speaking during the International Day of Forests commemoration in Kabwe on Friday, Mwanakampwe stressed that those found guilty would be dealt with according to the law.
This year’s event was held under the theme “Forests and Food.”
He emphasized that forests were vital to Zambia’s well-being and must be protected, warning that agriculture has already suffered from deforestation and uncontrolled bushfires.
“The Central Province is endowed with forest resources, but they are under immense pressure from encroachment, deforestation, and indiscriminate burning,” Mwanakampwe said.
He called for sustainable forest management, highlighting the role forests play in providing essential food resources such as vegetables, fruits, and mushrooms.
