Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company (NWSSC) has announced that water supply will soon resume in Kitwe, Kalulushi, and Chambishi following the reopening of the Bulangililo and Nkana treatment plants.
In a notice issued on Monday, Public Relations Manager, Bivan Saluseki, confirmed that both plants, which had been shut down, were now fully operational.
“Bulangililo is back and supplying to the distribution centres,” Saluseki stated.
He added that the Nkana East treatment plant resumed operations on Sunday.

“Once we build up water levels, distribution to all affected areas will begin. We thank the residents of Kitwe for their patience,” he said.
Residents of Kitwe, Kalulushi, and Chambishi had been without water since February 18, 2025, due to contamination of the Mwambashi and Kafue Rivers following an acid spill from the Sino Metals tailing dams.
The discharge of acidic effluent had not only disrupted water supply but also harmed local farmers, whose crops have been destroyed.
