Homes, offices to get some relief as ZESCO boosts electricity supply to five hours daily

Zambia’s power utility company, ZESCO, has announced an increase in daily electricity supply from three to five hours following the implementation of an emergency tariff adjustment aimed at enhancing service reliability.

ZESCO Spokesperson, Matongo Maumbi, in a statement released on Friday, noted that the company had adopted an updated national power rationing schedule to support the increase in supply hours.

The change was made possible by optimising power imports and boosting output from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) where feasible.

“With this adjustment, ZESCO aims to provide a consistent five-hour daily supply. However, the availability of power imports and other unforeseen circumstances may sometimes affect this schedule,” Maumbi stated.

He stated ZESCO’s commitment to keeping customers informed, pledging real-time updates via SMS alerts, ZESCO’s official Facebook page, and other communication channels if there are any deviations from the planned schedule.

In response to the challenging power supply situation, Maumbi assured the public that ZESCO is continually working on solutions to improve service delivery under the current conditions.

He added that any further increases in power availability would be communicated as soon as possible.

The emergency tariff adjustment and increased power supply hours come as ZESCO seeks to balance rising operational costs with the need to provide reliable electricity access across Zambia.
