Three men from Misisi compound have been committed to the High Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to attempting to sell a 4-year-old child for K150,000.

The victim’s step-father, Simon Silomba, and his accomplices, Martin Sichalwe and Kennedy Sichiweza, were convicted by Lusaka Magistrate Mutinta Mwenya after admitting to the crime.

The trio were arrested on March 21, 2024, following a tip-off from a concerned citizen who reported their attempt to sell the child in the Makeni area.

The child was recovered at a house in Makeni Villa and the accused were apprehended at Kanyama Police Station.

The victim’s mother testified that she discovered her daughter missing and later received a call from the police, informing her that her daughter was safe and that the three men were caught attempting to sell her.

The child revealed that her father had lured her with a coin and taken her to a shop, where they met the other accused.

Police intervened promptly after receiving the tip-off.

The Magistrate court lacks jurisdiction to sentence the trio, thus transferring the case to the High Court for sentencing.

The child is currently under the care of social welfare services.
