President Hakainde Hichilema has welcomed newly appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners from India, Belarus, Bangladesh, and Canada, underscoring the importance of strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.
Speaking at State House in Lusaka on Wednesday during the presentation of letters of credence, President Hichilema emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation to foster peace, security, and stability in Zambia and globally.
He highlighted the significance of building strong relationships between governments, businesses, and citizens to advance shared development goals.
“My government is committed to fostering joint ventures, investment, and trade with the countries represented by the newly accredited diplomats,” he said.
President Hichilema encouraged diplomats residing outside Zambia to consider relocating, noting that closer presence would facilitate better communication and reduce unnecessary travel.
He particularly acknowledged the potential for deepening partnerships with Bangladesh and Belarus, recalling past positive engagements.
“There is a need for all new Ambassadors and High Commissioners to work closely with Zambian government ministers and focus on meaningful cooperation through specific projects and programs,” he stated.
The President urged the diplomats to prioritize economic and social development, trade, and investment as key areas of collaboration.
He stressed the importance of coordinated efforts between their respective countries and various Zambian sectors to drive progress.
“I also want to commend each of your countries for your economic achievements and the potential to contribute positively to social upliftment,” he added.
