President Hakainde Hichilema has called on renowned American television host Steve Harvey to leverage his vast experience to position Africa prominently in the global television industry.

Speaking on Wednesday at State House in Lusaka, Hichilema lauded Harvey’s efforts to bring his popular TV show, Family Feud, to Africa, describing it as a clear demonstration of his commitment to promoting African media.

“We admire what you’ve achieved for yourself, your family, and your business, and the way you’re beginning to focus on elevating the profile of the African media industry,” Hichilema remarked.

Harvey, who arrived in Lusaka on Wednesday, highlighted his determination to globalize African media and strengthen ties between Africa, the United States, and the UAE.

“I am here because I have a strong desire to bridge the gap between America, the United Arab Emirates, and Africa,” Harvey said.

He underscored the lack of emphasis on the business aspect of show business in Africa, calling for a shift in focus to equip Africans with the knowledge to capitalize on the industry’s economic potential.

“The most money in the entertainment industry is on the business side, and that is something many Africans were never taught,” he said.

Harvey emphasized Africa’s youthful population as its greatest asset, urging the continent to invest in its young talent.

“Africa’s biggest asset is its people, especially its young talent. We need to harness that potential,” he pointed out.

To support this vision, Harvey announced plans to establish an academy to train young Africans for roles across the media industry, equipping them with skills to excel beyond traditional on-screen jobs.

Harvey’s visit underscores growing interest in strengthening Africa’s media connections and unlocking its potential on the global entertainment stage.
