Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, has announced that President Hakainde Hichilema will contribute K200,000 towards the successful hosting of the Ncwala Traditional Ceremony, which is scheduled for February this year in Muntenguleni, Eastern Province.
Nalumango made the pledge during a fundraising dinner on Saturday night at Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka, where she also committed to contributing K50,000 towards the event.
She highlighted government’s recognition of the importance of traditional ceremonies in promoting national identity and fostering social cohesion.
“It is important to preserve the country’s heritage for future generations,” Nalumango said, emphasizing that the government will continue to work with stakeholders to develop infrastructure that supports cultural events.
Nalumango further noted that traditional ceremonies like Ncwala are not only key to national unity but also contribute to economic development through tourism and cultural exchanges.
In a speech read on his behalf by Senior Nzamane, Paramount Chief Mpezeni paid tribute to the government for recognizing the role of traditional leaders in national development.
He expressed appreciation for the continued support for cultural practices that help strengthen the fabric of Zambian society.
The Ncwala Traditional Ceremony, held annually by the Ngoni people, celebrates the first fruits of the harvest and is an important occasion for social and cultural gatherings.
The government’s contribution is said to highlight its ongoing commitment to supporting Zambia’s diverse cultural heritage.
