President Hakainde Hichilema has described the seamless transition of leadership in Namibia and across Africa as a testament to the continent’s maturing democracy.
President Hichilema who is Namibia for s state visit, congratulated the country’s out-going leader, President Nangolo Mbumba on his leadership during a challenging period, marked by the loss of a sitting president and the founding president.
Zambia’s Head of State said this on the eve of Namibia’s 35th Independence anniversary and the inauguration of the president-elect, Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
“We were honored to join fellow Heads of State and Government, and other African leaders, at a State Banquet hosted by outgoing President Nangolo Mbumba at State House in Windhoek,” he wrote on his Facebook page on Friday.
President Hichilema stated that the occasion afforded him and his delegation, notably former Vice President, Inonge Wina, the opportunity to engage with various leaders.
Upon arrival in Namibia’s capital, Windhoek to witness the inauguration of that country’s fifth president and first female Head of State, President Hichilema paid respects to Namibia’s founding President, late Dr. Samuel Nujoma, at Heroes’ Acre.
“This milestone coincides with Namibia’s 35th independence anniversary to be commemorated tomorrow,” he said.
President Hichilema honored Nujoma and his generation for their selfless leadership, sacrifices, and tireless efforts to liberate Namibia and Africa.
He also assured of his commitment and other African leaders to carring on their legacy by promoting economic liberation and development across the continent.
“As leaders, we draw inspiration from their dedication and hard work. We recognize the debt we owe to Dr. Nujoma and his generation,” President Hichilema said.
The President is scheduled to return to Zambia immediately after the ceremony.
