Hichilema graces Builile traditional ceremony in Chiengi, promises to improve chiefs’ perks

President Hakainde Hichilema has graced this year’s Builile Traditional Ceremony of the Bwile people in Chiengi, where he made a commitment to improve the conditions of service for chiefs.

The ceremony, held under the theme “Kabwile Ukaya Teka Bwile Ukabwela,” was praised by President Hichilema for reflecting the land’s richness, fertility, the abundance of natural resources and the warm hospitality of the Bwile people.

Addressing the gathering on Saturday, President Hichilema underscored the significance of traditional ceremonies in preserving Zambia’s cultural heritage.

“Traditional ceremonies are vital in maintaining our culture. The government remains fully committed to ensuring food security for the people of Chiengi. As part of this commitment, we have established four new agricultural camps following the recruitment of agricultural extension officers to support our farmers,” he stated.

The President also highlighted the importance of utilizing Luapula’s abundant rainfall and healthy water bodies to drive agricultural growth.

“There is a need to leverage Luapula’s natural resources to boost agriculture. The government is committed to building more road infrastructure to ensure that food can be efficiently delivered to markets,” President Hichilema added.

During a meeting with traditional leaders, President Hichilema assured them of government’s determination to improve the conditions of service for chiefs, emphasizing that their role in society was crucial.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, Luapula Chiefs Chairperson Chief Chisunka expressed gratitude for the government’s efforts and affirmed the traditional leaders’ commitment to working alongside the government to foster unity and development in the country.
