President Hakainde Hichilema has called on the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) to review ZESCO’s application to adjust tariffs for residential, commercial, and maximum demand customers during the ongoing energy crisis.

Speaking at the official opening of the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) Forum on Wednesday at Mulungushi International Conference Centre, President Hichilema acknowledged ZESCO’s request to raise electricity tariffs, noting that he has been closely monitoring both the proposal and public feedback.

While expressing optimism that the ERB would approve ZESCO’s request, the President urged the board to consider the impact on small businesses, emphasising the need for a balanced approach.

“The PDU was established to address delivery-related concerns and improve the pace of services to the people,” Hichilema said.

He added that the government was committed to faster and more effective service delivery.

He pointed out that the agenda of the PDU aligned with the objectives of ministries and parastatals to ensure progress for the Zambian people.

Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa, highlighted the importance of the forum, which brought together traditional leaders, civil society organizations, private sector partners and the media to advance national development.

He commended the establishment of the PDU as a testament to the New Dawn Administration’s commitment to delivering results.

The forum focused on key presidential priority areas, including agriculture, mining, health, energy and education, while showcasing progress made through real-time project monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and reduced bureaucratic delays.
