President Hakainde Hichilema has called on Zambians to embrace the values of love and unity exemplified by the late fifth Republican President Michael Sata.
Hichilema made these remarks on Monday at a memorial service held at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka.
“He had a long political career and served his country in many ways,” Hichilema said, highlighting Sata’s dedication to advancing the nation without discrimination.

Emphasising the role of a president as a servant, he encouraged leaders to be subservient to the people they serve.
Hichilema also commended the Church for its inclusiveness, urging against divisive conversations.
“We must not create unnecessary dismissive dialogues,” he advised.
Former First Lady, Christine Sata, paid tribute to her late husband as a selfless and genuine leader who brought warmth to his relationships, regardless of who he was engaging with—whether Zambians from disadvantaged backgrounds, farmers, or world leaders.
“We pray, Mr. President, that you will embrace all Zambians, regardless of political affiliation, religion, or region,” she urged Hichilema.
Reacting to the event, Davies Chama, a member of the Patriotic Front Party, expressed disappointment over the lack of unity during the commemorative service.
“It’s sad that we couldn’t have a single service in unity,” Chama remarked.
