President Hakainde Hichilema has emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral ties between Korea and Zambia, particularly through the establishment of a Korean embassy in the country at resident level.
Hichilema highlighted that this would not only enhance diplomatic relations but also foster greater economic cooperation and collaboration between the two nations.
He said this in a speech read on his behalf by Zambian ambassador to Korea, Andrew Banda, on Wednesday when the Speaker of the National Assembly of Korea, Woo Won-shik, met with the African Group of Ambassadors to provide a briefing on the current state of affairs in the Republic of Korea.
“This collaboration would contribute to strengthening democratic structures and governance systems in nations, fostering greater transparency, accountability, and public participation in the political process,” he said.

Furthermore, Hichilema underscored the significant role that collaboration between the National Assemblies of Korea and Zambia could play in strengthening democratic processes and good governance in both nations.
He advocated the exchange of best practices, and experiences to improve the effectiveness of legislative systems.
He also extended Zambia’s deepest sympathy and solidarity with the people of Korea during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, speaker Woo reassured the ambassadors that despite the ongoing political challenges, Korea’s governance structures remained robust, stable and resilient.
