Hichilema advocates cultural preservation at Malaila ceremony in Mambwe

President Hakainde Hichilema has attended the Malaila traditional ceremony of the Kunda people under Senior Chief Nsefu in Malambo, Mambwe District, Eastern Province.

During the event, he stated the importance of valuing the country’s traditions and culture, urging those with education not to abandon these foundational elements.

“My appeal to those who acquired education is not to abandon the cultures and traditions that have held our nation together for years,” he stated.

In response to concerns raised by Senior Chief Nsefu regarding hunger and economic challenges, President Hichilema assured attendees that his government would address these issues systematically.

“Our country has endured several challenges, among them cholera, COVID-19, and now the devastating drought. However, together, we shall overcome,” he said.

Regarding agricultural and crop marketing issues, he announced that the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) would be instructed to return maize to local depots, enabling citizens to purchase it closer to home.

“This is in addition to many other measures we have taken to ameliorate the challenges we face,” he noted.

President Hichilema also reaffirmed that his government would not compete with traditional leaders, highlighting the importance of collaboration.

The President also reaffirmed that his government was not in competition with the church, opposition, or traditional leaders. 

He emphasized the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders for national development.

“This government is a partner of traditional leaders, the church, and the opposition in serving the people better,” Hichilema stated. 

He encouraged deepening partnerships to enhance community welfare.

Highlighting local representation, he noted that ministers from Mambwe were integral to the government’s framework.

Hichilema thanked traditional leaders for promoting unity and pledged to work together to address community challenges.
