Health Professions Council limits licensure examinations to diploma, degree holders, excludes certificates

The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) has announced that only diploma and degree holders will be eligible to take the Licensure Examinations (LEX), excluding certificate holders from the process.

HPCZ Registrar, Faston Goma, stated during a press briefing in Lusaka on Thursday that certificate-level programmes, such as those for Community Health Assistants (CHAs), would no longer require the Licensure Examination.

“Instead, other methods will be used to evaluate their competence. Therefore, certificate holders may proceed with submitting their applications for registration as health practitioners,” Goma said.

Goma also noted a modification in the licensure exam process.

Previously, candidates could take both the theory and practical exams simultaneously, with results announced only after marking both components.

“All eligible candidates will now first sit for the theory exam, and only those who pass will proceed to the practical examination,” he explained.

Goma added that theory exam results would be released within two weeks after the test.
