Health minister,Muchima, slams politicking in health sector

Health Minister, Elijah Muchima, has expressed concern over alleged politicization of the Ministry of Health, with some doctors seeking promotions based on political affiliations.

Muchima criticised senior health workers for spreading false claims that promotions were being given to individuals with ties to the Patriotic Front (PF), a practice he insisted must not be tolerated.

Addressing senior staff at Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTH) yesterday, Muchima emphasised that, as an experienced civil servant, he would base promotions and appointments on expertise and hard work, not political connections.

“There is too much politicking in my Ministry, and I will not tolerate behavior that promotes division, such as claims that promotions are given to individuals from a specific political party or region,” Muchima said.

“Doctors must prioritise their profession and stop spreading hatred, as this will only hinder national development.”

He acknowledged the challenges facing the sector, including inadequate infrastructure, equipment, and medication, but assured the public that the government was committed to addressing these issues.

Muchima also promised that uniforms would soon be distributed to hospital staff to restore dignity among the workforce.
