The Health Professional Council of Zambia (HPCZ) has announced a 61.5 percent pass rate for the February-March 2023 Licensure Examinations.

HPCZ Registrar Professor Faston Goma said out of the 1,926 candidates examined, 1,184 candidates passed the examinations representing a 61.5 percent pass rate for the February-March examination.

Goma said the Council registered 1,949 examination students at the beginning of the examination however only 1,926 sat for the examinations and 23 were either absent or asked for deferment.

Addressing Journalists at a media briefing on Monday in Lusaka, Goma said the next examinations will be undertaken in September, 2023 and the affected individuals can liaise with their training institutions.

“A candidate who has failed is eligible to re-attempt three more times. The next examinations will be undertaken in September 2023. Our advice is that affected individuals can liaise with their training institutions where applicable, for short retraining or practicum attachment arrangements between now and September,” he said.

Goma said the Council noted variability in the performance of candidates from various training institutions and the analysis of candidates for each training institution will be shared with the individual training institutions.

“The analysis of candidates for each training institution will be shared with the individual training institutions and discussed at the post-mortem meeting to be held soon. The Council will continue monitoring the performance of all graduates from the health training institutions, and results will be shared with the Higher Education Authority,” he said.

Meanwhile, Goma has reiterated the Council’s concern over the dressing code of most health professionals especially the Nurses who are fond of putting on short uniforms during working hours.

He said wearing short uniforms is against the professional conduct of the health profession and this will be looked into.
