Medical Quality Healthcare Zambia (MQHZ) says it is deeply concerned about the recent outbreak of cholera in Eastern Province.
More than 100 cases have been recorded in selected parts of the Eastern Province.
In a statement on Friday, Quince Mwabu, Director General at MQHZ urged the Ministry of Health to take immediate measures to prevent the spread of cholera to other districts.
Mwabu called for a multi-sectoral strategy to eradicate cholera in Zambia.

“Cholera is a preventable disease, and we believe that a collective effort is necessary to address the root causes of this outbreak,” he said.
Mwabu stated that there was a need to mobilize all stakeholders, including healthcare providers, local authorities, communities, and individuals, to work together to improve access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene.
“We appeal to the general public to take personal responsibility in preventing the spread of cholera by practicing good hygiene, drinking boiled water, and seeking medical attention immediately if symptoms persist,” he said.
Mwabu added that every minute counts in the fight against cholera saying MQHZ was committed to supporting the Ministry of Health and other partners in “this effort.”
