Lawmaker Mwiimbu urges swift implementation of Cash For Work Programme to combat hunger in Monze

Monze Central Constituency Member of Parliament, Jack Mwiimbu, has called on local authorities and stakeholders to accelerate the launch of the Cash For Work (CFW) programme in the district.

Mwiimbu expressed concern over the rising hunger in the communities across the District and the country at large, emphasising that resources were unavailable to tackle the crisis.

He was speaking during an orientation session for the initiative on Friday in Monze.

“It is disheartening to witness our people struggling with hunger while funds for food exist,” Mwiimbu said.

He underscored in the statement issued in Lusaka the crucial role community leaders played in facilitating the CFW programme, urging them to ensure inclusivity and avoid partisan biases.

“Hunger knows no political affiliation; we must ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, has access to this assistance,” he cautioned.

Monze Town Council Chairperson, Powell Mutenguna, echoed Mwiimbu’s sentiments, stressing the need for equitable participation in the programme.

He urged those responsible for registration to prioritise individuals facing extreme food insecurity, ensuring that no one was overlooked.

Meanwhile, Beston Kajoba, the Monze Council Secretary, provided further insight into the programme’s potential impacts.

He explained that once fully implemented, the CFW initiative is expected to provide immediate access to food for affected families, thereby saving lives and alleviating suffering.

“This programme will not only maintain or build community assets but will also promote self-reliance through labor-based work,” Kajoba added, noting its potential to stimulate local economic activities.

The Cash For Work programme, introduced by the government, aims to assist families in mitigating the ongoing hunger crisis, reflecting a commitment to support vulnerable communities in Monze District.
