Governance and Development Advocates Zambia (GDAZ) has called on Zambians to have respect for the Constitution.

Organization’s Executive Director, Elias Mulenga, noted that some desperate sections of opposition political parties have resorted to abusing the freedom of speech and association, thereby creating an artificial impression that Zambia does not respect the rule of law.

Mulenga told Zambia Monitor in Lusaka on Sunday that there was need for Zambians to rise up and defend the cause of democracy.

He further said democracy was founded on orderliness and respect for authorities.

“The governance system of the nation has brought in a free new open transparent accountable system, a new political landscape has emerged, we need to work hard in order to protect the hard earned democracy, let’s avoid being malicious in our mouths as we may end up destroying the peace that Zambia is building,” Mulenga said.

He noted that some falsehoods circulating on social media are alarming and dangerous to the security of the nation and wellbeing of the people.

“Above all we need to have confidence and respect for the Presidency and the entire authorities that are leading this nation,” Mulenga said.
