Governance, Elections, Advocacy and Research Services (GEARS) has called for support in President Hakainde Hichilema’s efforts to combat corruption in Zambia.
Initiative Board Chairperson, Jackson Lungu, stated that it was unfortunate the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had been compromised, which weakened the government’s position in fighting corruption.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday, Lungu said, “The Church, Civil Society Organizations, Political Players, and Law Enforcement Agencies must not tire in their efforts to call for and promote transparency and accountability in the management of national resources.”

He advised key actors to rally behind the president in combating corruption, stressing the importance of collective action in promoting good governance and accountability.
Additionally, the group encouraged President Hichilema to reconstitute the ACC board and appoint a new director-general.
“This will prevent creating a vacuum that would be taken advantage of by unscrupulous individuals to rob the nation of its already limited resources,” Lungu pointed out.
The group also hoped that a reformed ACC, with robust leadership, would be instrumental in restoring public trust and ensuring the effective management of national resources.
