Advocates for National Development and Democracy, a non-governmental organization, has urged all political parties to conduct peaceful and development-oriented campaigns during the Petauke Central and Pambashe parliamentary by-elections.
Executive Director, Samuel Banda, emphasized the need for adherence to the Electoral Code of Conduct, as outlined by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), to ensure a fair and orderly electoral process.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Banda called for campaigns that focus on addressing Zambia’s economic challenges and proposing solutions to improve citizens’ livelihoods.
“We urge all political parties, including the UPND, Tonse Alliance, Citizens First (CF), Socialist Party (SP), and others, to conduct themselves peacefully and respectfully as their candidates file nominations today for the upcoming by-elections,” Banda said.
He reminded politicians that Zambians prioritize progress and development over violence, urging them to present actionable agenda that bring tangible benefits to communities.
Banda also called on the ECZ to uphold its mandate under Article 229(2) of the Constitution by ensuring the by-elections are free, fair, and peaceful.

He stressed the importance of impartial enforcement of the Electoral Code of Conduct to create a level playing field for all contenders.
Additionally, Banda highlighted the need for collaboration between the ECZ and the Zambia Police to protect accredited electoral monitors and guarantee their safety during the elections.
“The security and well-being of all election stakeholders are essential to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu, on January 6, 2025, warned political parties against engaging in lawlessness.
“As government, we assure the public and stakeholders that law and order will be maintained by security agencies to ensure peaceful elections in Pambashe and Petauke Central,” Mwiimbu said.
