Govt’s conduct in airport gold scandal, a ‘reprisal’ attack, Businessman Kasanda alleges

0

Businessman Sedrick Kasanda has raised concerns about what he describes as government’s retaliatory actions against him, despite his role as a whistleblower in the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport gold scandal.

Kasanda claimed he had been threatened with further seizure of his properties after disclosing the scandal involving Congolese nationals, a South African and Egyptians.

In a statement of claim filed with the Lusaka High Court, Kasanda seeks a court order declaring that the State’s conduct against him constituted unlawful reprisal, violating the Public Interest Disclosure (Protection of Whistleblowers) Act No. 4 of 2010.

Kasanda argued that, as a whistleblower, he was entitled to statutory protection under the law due to his disclosure of the gold transaction to law enforcement authorities.

He seeks a ruling that the State’s actions amount to unlawful retaliation and violate the Public Interest Disclosure Act.

He is also requesting damages for the harm caused by the State’s alleged unlawful actions, an interim order to prevent further reprisal until his statutory protection was fully determined and legal costs.
